Turning Day - September 20, 2008

The first Turning Day for Chattahoochee Woodturners was a success. Don Bedell, Don Wilkins and Bob Black met Saturday, September 20th at Baxter's Belmont Shop at 9:00 AM. Don W wanted to explore how to go about tuning bowls, Don B wanted to work on turning semi-spheres on the back post of a most interesting rocker he produces and Bob worked on roughing out a natural edge bowl from a  decorative cherry root ball.

In addition to producing two sacks of shavings a lot of inforamtion was exchanged and several stories were told each with the highest degree of veracity.

As announced at the last regular meeting we plan to have Turning Day on the third Saturday of the month. The planning department failed to foresee the date conflicted with the Southern States Symposium until it was too late to change.

Since we are nothing if not flexible please be warned that the October Turning Day will be on October 25th, which is not the third Saturday but it is a Saturday. Meet at the shop at 9:00 AM. Frank Bowers will show us how to turn pens.

Since Frank will put together kits for each person attending please give me a call or better yet email me to announce that you will attend. Bob Black, 770 271 8871, bobblack at bellsouth dot net.
